“Oh, yeah? Well…your Mama has a mustache!”

Ouch. Nothing zaps a woman’s self confidence more quickly than a hairy upper lip or furry eyebrows. Hormones gone wacky or simple heredity can make the annual family reunion a dreaded event. Who wants to sit around looking at the older generation, wondering when the ‘hair gene’ will kick in? Thoughts of Grandma’s trusty magnifying mirror and tweezers always on the ready come bouncing through a girl’s thoughts. Scary stuff.

And let’s not forget our fair-skinned, dark-haired sisters. They’re always the ones wishing for a tan but that fair skin will not cooperate. They walk around with a hand placed just so, trying desperately to draw attention away from that hair. They may as well be holding a flashing neon sign that screams I. HAVE. A. MUSTACHE. Oh, and have you ever noticed that the rags-to-riches stories in movies always feature a fair-skinned female that is suddenly transformed when someone shows her how to tame her brows and ‘stache? Gee. What’s a girl to do?

One of the most popular hair removers for the female face is waxing. Waxing is a simple concept that has been around for ages. Wax is warmed and spread over the area in question in a thin layer using a small spatula, usually wooden. A cloth strip is placed over the wax. Muslin is the most popular choice, although other fabrics can be used. Then after a count of 1, 2, 3, the cloth is yanked off in the opposite direction of the hair growth.

Waxing can be done by a professional or with a home kit. You can find comparable results in just about any price range. The costly salon, using high-end products may be the hair remover solution for some, while the home kit purchased at the local department store may be right up another girl’s alley.

The significant thing? No more mustache and perfectly arched eyebrows! The desired result is easily achieved. It can be painful, though. I mean, you are literally ripping your own hair out or worse, paying someone else to do that for you. Not to mention that warm wax can sometimes be a little too warm, if you know what I mean. Yes, your mustache is gone but in its place is a nice red burn.

There is another thing about waxing that is important to remember. The hair comes back. Waxing is not a permanent solution. Over time the hair may come back softer, thinner and less noticeable. But it does come back. That’s something to think about when you make the choice between a pricey professional and do it yourself body hair removal.
