Build Your Own Solar Panel

If you think that solar energy consists solely of those large panels that reflect off of homes, think again.  Although it came to light, so to speak, in the 1960s, solar energy has progressed and can be used for everything from heating our homes to fueling our cars.  Solar energy is free energy and can be harnessed for a fraction of what it costs for electricity.  On top of that, solar energy is good for the environment.

Solar power is very good for the environment, and it is even better for our energy security. At present, we are too dependant on the Middle East for oil, this leaves us wide open to exploitation and political blackmail. If we were energy dependent, then we can be a lot more confident about how we can power our economy when looking 50 years into the future.

Years ago, we considered people who used solar energy to heat their homes pretty much as crackpots.  But today, they have the last laugh.  As the price of oil to heat homes continues to rise along with concerns about the environment, those who have made the way to solar energy are saving money as well as the earth.

Most new buildings are being built with some consideration to solar energy as the energy crisis as well as the concerns about the environment are forefront in the minds of many people.  There are many uses for solar energy, however, other than heating.  In addition to heating the home, solar energy can be used to provide power for appliances and even modern gadgets like MP3 players.   We are all familiar with solar powered calculators.  They work well without batteries.  Well, why not use that same energy to power other gadgets as well?

There are many advantages and disadvantages of solar power but if you combine solar energy with wind power, you can even get more of an energy impact.  Uses for solar energy range from heating a home and fuelling a car to actually cleaning water in third world countries that can end up saving lives.  The uses for solar energy are impressive.

In order to use solar energy and continue with this technology, more emphasis has to be made on the growing concern over the cost of energy as well as the impact that it has on the eco system.  Both those who are concerned about advantages and disadvantages of solar power and those who are concerned with the environment will agree that solar energy is a promising way at solving a problem with regard to the high cost and high impact of today’s types of energy.
