The car hire firm Avis has announced that it will be offering free car hire to UK based small businesses to help them get sales overseas up to a value of  over £175,000.

British Airways is also offering free flights to small businesses to help boost their exports. The airline will provide 5,000 return flights to small busineses looking to enter new markets abroud

The above has been welcomed by UK politicians and business leaders.

To apply for the scheame the company must have less than 250 employees and have an  annual turnover of less than 50 million euros.

The free giveaway scheme is being administered by UK Trade & Industry, and an application form is available here.

The car rental giant Avis recorded a fall in revenue of 17% to $1.19 billion . Revenue in the US market fell by 15 percent, while the international car rental market dropped 29 percent.

Avis stock price remains down more than 80% from the middle of last year, but the company has a goal to reduce cost by between $150 to $200 million in annual savings by the middle of the year.
