If there’s one thing that dogs love, it’s a warm place to go and feel safe! I have 5 different dog beds scattered throughout the house for my dogs. I especially love the Othorpedic dog bed for my 3 older dogs. I bought 3 of these for my 2 German Shepherds and my Chow/Golden Retriever Mix. The reviews here and the fact that I bought my parents a human version of this for their 49th anniversary, and they love it, helped me make the buying decision.
The dogs, although they have not specifically commented, love
these beds. You know a dog loves a bed when you sneak in while they are asleep
and they are laying upsidedown, legs in the air, then wake while you watch them,
and without moving an inch, they stare at you, trying to understand why you
appear to be upsidedown.
Another indication of their enjoyment of the
bed is the fact that they are not restless at night. In the past, on a towel, a
blanket, or another type of pillow, they moved around like a pauper in a pay
toilet and made the associated grunts and groans. That has ended.
Most cats are covered with a thick, protective fur. This makes it extremely difficult to tell if a cat has a skin problem before it becomes extreme. It is important to take time on a regular basis to examine your cat’s skin closely for anything that may be wrong.
Run your hand gently over his body and explore the skin for any unusual patches. If you find any, part the fur by brushing it slightly, so that you can see beneath the fur and have a better look at the skin. If you do this often enough and understand your cat’s body, you should be able to spot any irregularity easily. You will learn to know what looks normal and what doesn’t. Cheyletiellosis is a skin disorder in cats icaused by skin mites and is particularly contagious between cats as well as humans. In cats, the symptoms are itching and it usually results in heavy scaling and flaking of the skin, which is why Cheyletiellosis in cats is often known as “walking dandruff”. This skin condition is usually not deadly and can be easily treated with the right medication once the condition has been diagnosed and confirm.
Alopecia is a skin disorder in cats that will cause hair loss due to endocrine disturbances, localized infections, or generalized illnesses. The condition can also be a result of stress. The symptoms included bald patches on the skin and can be accompanied by reddened or inflamed skin. Not a deadly skin disease, and with proper treatment, the fur would most likely grow back.
While most skin conditions are cause by allergies to food and pesticides bite, and can be easily managed and treated, early detection is still important. A few minutes each day could very well prevent days of discomfort later.
Did you know that your cats ringworm is not a real honest to goodness worm? That’s right cat lovers. Your cat isn’t infected with a worm, but a fungus. If you’re into big names the medical term is dermatophytosis. Let’s keep it simple and use ringworm throughout this article. This article will give you 4 tips about your feline’s ringworm.
1, Your Cats Ringworm And Your Children.
Ringworm is extremely contagious. Your cat can pass it on to your children, you and other animals. You or the kids can infect someone else or another pet. Not only can it be passed on to others, it can be spread to other parts of your body or the bodies of your child or pet.
It is impetrative that you have your animal treated as soon as possible. In addition, if your child or you, are infected you should consult with your family physician. In most cases if the fungus is treated properly you will start to see improvement within the first few days.
Within 7 to 10 days there should be a complete recovery from the fungus. However, the doctor or your vet may recommend continued treatment for up to 2 or 3 weeks to make sure there is no reoccurrence of the infection.
2. How Can I Tell If My Cat Has Ringworm?
You should understand that in some cases there will be no outer signs of the fungus infection on some cats. However, your cat can still be a carrier and infect you, your children and your other pets. If you suspect your animal is a carrier call your vet.
If this is the case how can your cat or you be a carrier? Actually that is pretty simple to explain. The fungus can be anywhere. It can be in the grass, on the sidewalk, flowerbeds and can even be in the air ducts of your home.
During the incubation period of the fungus it develops spores, which can be picked up by your pet or you. When your animal or you move about the spores will drop off into the carpet, furniture, clothing, and bedding. Therefore the spores then can be picked up by your heating and air conditioning unit to be circulated through out your home.
3. How You Can Identify The Cats Ringworm.
First let’s talk about how ringworm can be spotted on your favorite feline. In most cases you will spot the fungus on the head, around the ears or eyes or on the paws and nails of your cat.
Generally this is demonstrated by the circles of hair loss or flaky red skin in a circular form. You may notice your kitty scratching and licking the wounded area. Furthermore you may well see an increase in broken hairs and patches of flakey skin on the pets bedding, the carpeting, your clothing or your furniture.
One area you need to think about checking closely is the cat’s paws. There is a variety of the fungus, which seems to concentrate in the pads of the paws or under the nail beds of your pet.
Second let’s talk about how to spot it on your child’s body or on your self. Very likely you will have an itchy sensation, in the area, where the fungus has penetrated the skin. As it continues to fester you will see a red circular pattern on the infected area. You may also observe dead looking skin flakes. Again you should contact your doctor in the event you see an outbreak on you or your child.
4. What Are The Treatments For Your Cats Ringworm?
At last there is some good news. Ringworm is easily treated by your vet and you. In the majority of the cases the vet may prescribe an antifungal cream and shampoo. It’s usually a matter of shampooing your favorite pet every other day and applying the cream as directed by the vet.
Surprisingly enough your personal physician will recommend a very similar treatment for you or your child. It’s possible they may prescribe and antifungal soap and cream. However, the doctor may just tell you to pick up the soap and cream across the counter at your local discount store or drugstore.
In conclusion you, your children and your wonderful pet can be infected by cats ringworm. But it is easily treated and cured with the proper medication.

Socializing your pet to accept new pets into the household is not always an easy task. The dog usually has its own ideas of its territory and home and is generally not a generous creature when it come to sharing but would much rather chase the intruders away. We have to reprogram the dogs thinking to make it understand that chasing the cat or iguana or whatever other pet you may have, is not acceptable.
To start, make certain that the new animal will be safe. Place the new pet in a pet carrier or some other sturdy structure that prohibits the dog from actually physically contacting the animal but still allows for both dogs to see, smell and hear each other. This provides a way for both dogs to acclimate to each other in a safe, though possibly a bit stressful, situation. In later steps, gloves might be advisable to avoid scratches from a nervous pet. After the dogs have both calmed a bit give them each a small reward, such as a morsel of some favorite food.
Be sure to give the dog lots of verbal praise and affection when it is not barking or trying to get to the new animal as this will show the dog that you are accepting of the new pet’s presence and you expect him to be also. One last point to keep in mind is that just like humans, not everyone is going to get along. There will be days where the dog and the cat are going to feud or the iguana will get cantankerous and slap the dog with his tail for the fun of it. Some dogs were just never meant to live in harmony but with a lot of patience and a little direction you can make your household fairly peaceable most of the time.

The word insurance is one of those words that just makes you cringe. Next to putting gas in your car it seems like the biggest expense you have and there is just so much that you need. You need to keep insurance on your car (it would have been really nice if somebody would have told how big a financial drain that was going to be), if you own a home you pay homeowners insurance, if you rent an apartment you have renters insurance, you struggle with the ever soaring cost of health care insurance, and if you are a really responsible family member you have life insurance.
And now you find you are hearing that you should consider purchasing a health insurance plan for your pet dog. You love your dog, he’s more then a pet, he’s a valued member of your family and probably your best friend. But health insurance? You can barely afford to put food on your table how are you supposed to be able to afford to insure your pet. Besides he’s just a mutt, dog health care insurance is for fancy purebred show dogs, not your rescue pet.
The shoestring you”re probably living on is the very reason you might want to consider putting pet health insurance on your pet. The average dog owner takes their pet dog to the veterinarian approximately 2.3 times a year and it will cost you approximately two hundred and eleven dollars per year. My guess is that each time you pay the vet bill your budget is screaming for mercy. What happens if your dog contracts a disease, or gets hurt? It doesn’t take much to rack up some pretty serious vet bills. What if you have to leave town and can’t take your dog with you? Can you really afford to leave your dog at a boarding kennel? You already know how much you have to pay for your prescriptions, do you really think that a dog prescription is going to be any cheaper.
Your dog is your best friend and a treasured member of your family could you really live with yourself if you had to put him to sleep just because you couldn’t afford his vet bill. It is possible to get health care insurance for your dog for approximately ten dollars a month. While it might not cover all of your dogs vet care needs it could help. If you shop around and read each plan carefully you should even be able to find a pet healthcare plan that will help pay for your routine vet visits. Some pet insurance plans will even cover some boarding expenses.
Some questions you should ask the pet health insurance company you are considering buying a pet health care policy from is whether or not your vet accepts that particular type of insurance, if there is a cap on treatments, how much is your deductible, and how will they handle any pre-existing conditions your dog might have.
