Your Game Room With Pool Table Accessories

Billiards tables are becoming more and more common in peoples homes. People are discovering that having a pool table is a wonderful way to draw people together for good clean fun, activity and conversation.

Billiards lends itself to fostering conversation while also developing skills. As important as selecting a quality pool table for the home is acquiring the proper pool table accessories.

Many people don’t realize the importance of pool cue chalk and as a result it is one of the most overlooked pool table accessories. The chalk on the cue tip helps to avoid the problem of the cue tip sliding when hitting the cue ball instead of connecting with it solidly.

In billiards, the most frustrating thing that can happen is to have a crucial shot lined up and ready to win you the game, but missing it because you forgot to chalk up the cue beforehand.

It is important to have a safe and secure place to store the pool cue sticks so that they don’t become warped or otherwise damaged. A pool cue rack will protect and secure the sticks.

Often pool table accessories will come in a matching set that will include the cue rack, triangular ball rack and storage rack for the balls.

Playing With Snooker Tables At Home

The billiards game known as snooker came about in the late 1800′s and was first developed by a group of British Army cadets who carried the nickname of “snookers.” The variation of the pool game they played, called Black Pool, came to be known as snooker.

Just as the game of snooker was a variation of a billiards game, snooker tables are also a variant of the British billiard tables which can be used to play a number of billiard-type games.

Eventually, the billiard pool tables were covered with cloth to protect the surface and to standardize the action of the balls. The cushioning and pockets were also added after going through numerous variations before also being standardized.

In the 1830′s, slate beds began to be used in the English billiard tables and this improvement can also be seen in the snooker tables of modern times.

In today’s snooker tables, the size of the pocket openings are made according to templates which are owned by the Governing Body of World Snooker. These templates are required to be used for any snooker table utilized in professional snooker tournaments.

However, many casual players find the small size of the pocket openings frustrating, so tables built for home use or for snooker clubs will usually have pockets with wider openings.

Swing Set Accessory You Cannot Do Without

Forget any other kind of swing set accessories. Whether you’re talking playground or backyard sets, among all the extras available there is one type of swing set accessory that you almost can’t do without; the trusty slide.

Kids enjoy this element of play structures just as much as they do the swings themselves. The two have worked together for so long that it’s very rare to find a swing set without a slide right alongside it.

Even so, the days of the old metal slide appear mostly to be over. Wooden swing sets all add sturdy resin or plastic slides to their frames, and even among metal sets, you’ll rarely ever find that the slide is made of metal as well.

Kettler, a company from Germany, provides a small metal slide as a swing set accessory for some of their swing sets, but even it has a resin platform and base.

One of the advantages of the newer type of slide is an extra safety factor. With the different, more rounded shape of this swing set accessory, not to mention that it’s made of materials that don’t experience the same temperature extremes that metal did in different seasons, children are now much less likely to suffer injuries.

This means that they can enjoy their playground or backyard swing set with the same enthusiasm that they always have, while their parents breathe just a little easier on the sidelines.

Operating Your Indoor Ceiling Fan Controls

Many look at installing a ceiling fan as a way to save energy and money, even if they have to sacrifice looks for economy. Thankfully, fan accessories such as lights have become more detailed and pleasing to look at.

However, one ceiling fan accessory that may get overlooked is fan controls. At one time your only choice was to pull a chain or flip a switch. Now you have more choices on how you want to control the operation of your fan.

Virtually all fans that are sold to residential consumers include some type of fan controls, even if it is just a pull chain. And when it is a pull chain it operates on a sequential switch (usually 1-2-3) low, medium and high.

Fans that have ceiling fan light kits require two types of control, one for the fan and one for the light. If the light came with the fan it will usually include 2 pull chains, whereas a light kit should include a separate chain.

Another option for the way you operate your indoor ceiling fan is through a wall control. The wall control enables you to turn the fan on and off and adjust the speed through a wall mounted control box placed in a convenient location in the room.

If you want separate fan controls for the light and fan, then you can run two wires, otherwise you will need a two wire fan/light or dual controls. If you will be operating more than one fan, then be sure to use a control that is rated for more than one fan or has at least 5 amps.

Ceiling Fan Accessories Increase Convenience And Improve Decorating Theme

Ceiling fans continue to rise in popularity as more and more people look for ways to save as much as 15% on their energy bill in winter and 45% in summer. Plus they offer a comfortable living environment while saving energy and money.

The ceiling fan accessories, such as the light kits, are also increasing in popularity for their contribution to convenience and because they can help pull the decorating theme of a room together.

If you feel that you are not able to install a ceiling fan in your home because your ceilings are unusually shaped, then there are adapters that can be used in houses that have steeply sloped ceilings. These adapters are ceiling fan accessories that are available to hold the ceiling fans firmly in place.

Another rather significant accessory is down rods (the rods that go from the ceiling down to the fan) and as a general rule the formula for calculating the length needed is the ceiling height in feet minus 9 feet equals the down rod length. They come in different colors and usually have several different pre-made holes in the rod, allowing you to choose from different heights.

Naturally, ceiling fan accessories, such as ceiling fan lights, are more popular now than when they were first introduced. Perhaps it is due to the fact that there are so many more styles from which to choose.

Some of the more popular ones include a spotlight style that allows you to focus the light in different directions. For something a bit more elegant, consider chandelier style lights that give that perfect touch of class.
