Decorating Buildings With Architectural Glass

Architectural glass can make an ordinary building into something marvelous. For centuries, this type of glass has been used to decorate plain brick and mortar buildings. One type of glass that was used in the early construction of huge buildings, was leaded stained glass.

This type of glass was used in various ways, including communicating to those who were unable to read or write. Various types exist, and if one knows these types, then an individual can understand more about how buildings were turned into works of art.

Various types of architectural glass can be found in today’s building markets. For those who want a rolled look, one may decide to use the figure rolled glass. The glass has suspended bubbles within itself.

Another unique type is the laminated variety. This glass is mainly used for safety purposes since it is almost impossible to shatter. Many high end stores and certain celebrities have found this to be a great addition to the windows of their buildings and homes, respectively.

Architectural glass is a great example of an understated art form. Many think of glass in a building as not really having an effect on the artistic feel of the establishment. That could not be farther from the truth.

With the right type of glass, a building can be transformed from a drab dwelling into a masterpiece that will not be forgotten for years to come. Visit this website for more information, http://www.architecturalglassinc.com.

Design Your Buildings

Before you begin the process of building your own home, you should consider the following and discuss them to your designer. What is your budget, what is the square footage of the home, what style do you want for the facade, including exterior finish and roofing, and what individual design features do you want.

Specific details like window sizes, ceiling heights, number of closets and features in the kitchen and bathroom are also important, as is knowing the timeframe for completion. The designer of buildings who has the ability to turn your dreams into reality is just a phone call away. Follow these steps and you will be closer to fulfilling your dreams of constructing your own custom home.

What is the designer’s role in the process? When they design buildings, architects, engineers and designers charge for designing the house will be over and above the actual construction costs.

Some builders provide design services as part of their package, and the design is factored into the price. This will have an impact on the amount of time that can be spent in working and changing the design. When selecting who designs your home, this needs to be considered.

The advantages of working with an expert to design your home and other buildings include a personalized and flexible design process, the ability to choose a design that fits your lifestyle and budget requirements and the ability to tailor your construction to your particular site.

Interior Design News Showcasing Better Trends

The average American finds his or her design news gracing the pages of the local newspaper. The New York Times, LA Times and Washington Post all have decent sized sections for interior design ideas.

However, an interior design magazine can go a little more in-depth with some of these issues. For instance, www.interiordezine.com, www.interiordesign.net, www.homeanddesign.com and www.contractmagazine.com can all be found online, offering the latest news and interior design tips.

Customization is the way of the future they say, which is why Spoonflower is making design news. At www.spoonflower.com, consumers can design custom fabrics for table cloths, curtains, sofa cushions, pillows, comforters or any other textile around the house.

Once the design is made by consumers, they send their finished product to the printers in North Carolina, where they are churning out 40-60 yards of fabric each day. Custom fabric costs consumers $18/yard and is presently available in combed cotton, although upholstery-weight canvas is coming soon.

The iPhone is making headlines in design news for 2009. M.O.C. Interior Design recently launched the “Mark On Call” application, which allows iPhone and iTouch users to create and share floor plans. The program lets users create sizes and dimensions based on their actual homes, add and arrange furniture, change fabrics, lay down flooring and select rugs.

The program comes with a measuring tool, shopping lists, a note pad and is priced at $5-$10/week. The more buzz that occurs regarding interior design services, the better it will be. With all the $500+ interior design software out there, “Mark On Call” is a reasonably priced way to re-envision home space.

Choosing The Better Interior Design Schools

Planning is the first step for any building, therefore it is reasonable to assume interior design jobs will always be around. There is residential or commercial interior design. You can specialize in kitchens, bathrooms, hotels, museums, restaurants, lighting, space, exhibits, paint, fabrics, furniture, or TV/movie sets.

It can be difficult to choose your passion without dabbling in everything, which is where interior design schools come in handy. After pursuing four years of education, you will be ready for your first apprenticeship. After that, you can continue on to become a licensed professional interior designer.

One of the top interior design schools is Cornell University, located in upstate New York. What makes this interior design school unique is its specialized classes, such as Facility Planning, Human Factors and Ergonomics, Design and Environmental Analysis,

Making A Difference By Design, Arch History, Computer Aided Design, Interior Materials & Sustainable Elements, Restaurant Design, Hospitality Facility Design and Entrepreneurship & Business. Students will learn more than just the technical skills they need to succeed, yet will be asked to look at the larger picture of how innovative designs and colors impact our perception and our world.

The California College of Arts is another one of the interior design schools to consider. With more than 80% of its classes having 20 students or less, the emphasis here is personalized instruction and mentoring.

Students will gain internships as part of their coursework and will take other classes on building materials, space, lighting, technology, and interior design furniture. There are two campuses; one in San Francisco and one in Oakland to accommodate students. Tuition is $26,100 per term.

The Latest New Designs For Bathrooms

“The bathroom is the new living room,” says Direct Buy, a leading showroom center for new designs. Bathrooms are one of the most remodeled areas of the home and Americans are looking for lavish luxury over simple functionality.

“It’s quite natural that when you spend more time in a room, you’re going to want it to be pleasing to the eye and functional—even if that room is the bathroom,” explains one DB owner, Jeremy Vest.

“When you’re talking about creating a bathroom/home spa, that’s even more important. That’s why homeowners should take a step back and consider their options when planning a dream bathroom.” He added that home owners can easily create an opulent, hotel-inspired bathroom design with the help of interior design services.

Creating new designs for dream bathrooms can cost as little as $5,000 or as much as $50,000, experts say. According to a 2007 report from Remodeling Magazine, luxury bathroom remodels recoup 78.3% of the costs at resale time.

“While most people don’t create their dream bathroom for their home’s next owner, it certainly is a nice extra to know it can dramatically improve the value of the entire home,” says Karuna Talwar, Direct Buy Gurnee owner and bathroom design consultant.

Consumer Reports found that the national average cost is around $10,000, although there are obvious ways to save on your bathroom home designs. For instance, don’t move the toilet, consider stock items, use tile sparingly and shop around at expos, showrooms, Home Depot, Waterworks and independent interior design stores for items.

Color is the starting point for many Americans looking at new designs for their bathrooms. “You need colors you like to make you feel good in any room, and the bathroom, even a small powder room, should not be neglected,” advises professional interior designer Cy Winship of Minneapolis.

Since the bathroom is so small, you can get away with brighter color palettes. Choose colors that complement your towels and bath rugs. For instance, chocolate-brown goes well with vintage pastel tiles that so many older bathrooms have.

While dark colors may look great, you need to make sure the lighting is bright enough to do your shaving or put on your makeup. Avoid lime green or sickly yellow, which will make you look like a horror show in the morning, Winship cautions.

The Details On Design Interior Spaces

Those who design interior spaces will tell you, “It is all in the details.” It could be a new piece of furniture or a new coat of paint that livens up a room, or it may take tearing down walls, adding storage space-saver options and revamping the flooring.

There are a number of blogs and interior design trends magazines dedicated to showing you the latest and greatest custom designs and projects. To view some of the innovative designs we are about to discuss, visit www.freshome.com.

Perhaps you have a small room you would like to enlarge through design. Lighting is another design interior trick for re-sizing your space. Obviously, natural light-flow with sheer dressings is ideal, but you can also add cozy halogen lighting features to make the room look bigger.

When it comes to designs color options, try ice-blue, cream, a soft green and lighter molding with a darker trim. Carefully choosing one or two pictures and keeping clutter to a minimum is essential in reinventing your space.

Use “floating” furniture that affixes to the wall, the ceiling or other areas to keep the floor as open as possible. Decorative rugs, glass table tops and large mirrors can also make a cramped space larger. Check out www.furniture-for-small-spaces.com for some practical solutions. You might not have to rip that wall down after all!

To design interior spaces may initially seem like a matter of personal taste, but it is really an art form worthy of a four-year Bachelor of Science degree, involving technical manipulation of space and building materials, as well as an in-depth knowledge of how color and furniture contribute to an overall tone.

While you may be able to save a few bucks doing it yourself, nothing beats professional interior design jobs. While you may think you are designing solely for yourself, you will still want to consider decorating for maximum retail value.

Home Interior Ideas For 2009

Are you wondering what is new for home interior trends in ’09? Perhaps you are looking to prep your house to sell, building a new property from scratch, expanding to a new office complex or you just need a change of scenery.

Interior design jobs encompass a range of diverse styles, themes and tastes, although there are some clear trends emerging now that builders are allowing clients so many customizable options. This year, open floor plans will likely continue to flourish, along with more practical ideas to combine energy efficiency and frugality in a tasteful way.

Family spaces are likely to continue in popularity throughout 2009, say home interior experts. “‘Rear living, with the family room and kitchen to the back of the house, makes is so that while mom is cooking, she can see the kids playing in the living room or entertain guests without leaving the kitchen,” details Michelle Uhrig, director of the KB Home Studio.

She adds that many of their modern designs include fewer walls in common rooms and more of an “open concept” feel. Half-walls conjoining kitchens, dining rooms and den areas are preferable. Additionally, the European concept of outdoor living rooms have finally come to America, with exterior kitchens, pizza ovens, fire pits, chandeliers, artwork and comfortable furniture under a covered overhang are big.

In terms of furniture, people are looking for functionality out of their home interior selections. The Murphy bed is making a comeback when it comes to bedroom design, some say, because it allows comfortable meditation space, storage space and add-on seating options.

Built-in bookshelves, storage nooks and closet organizers are helping a number of Americans pack away their messes. Traditional “media rooms” are turning into more central gathering points, as families add bars and snack centers, libraries and desk space into these communal locales.

Home Interior Design With Unified Elements

Home Interior Design With Unified Elements

Some of the most popular exteriors in America are Modern, Art Deco, Victorian and Colonial Revival. Logically, many of these home owners would choose to complement the home interior design by using unified elements.

If the exterior is an Arts and Craft bungalow, for instance, you may want neutral tone walls, stained glass lights and mission oak furniture. However, if you have a Cape Cod, then a country theme might be more appropriate for your interior. You can gain insight and custom designs from a trained professional to help you make the best choices.

Victorian home interior design boasts opulence and affluence. Rather than borrowing from simplistic styles like Feng Shui or Minimalism, Victorian interior design ideas are not shy about adding all the bells and whistles. The basic elements of a traditional Victorian style home are windows, window dressings and furniture.

The large windows generally have a minimum of three full layers of heavy curtains and shades. Victorian furniture is ornamental and over-sized. Patterned oriental rugs, gold candle holders, grandfather clocks, antique paintings, lace trim, embroidered pillows, velvet sofas, old-fashioned dishes, embroidered doilies, antique mirrors and crystal collectibles are all Victorian interior design trends that you can add to your home.

Generally, when considering home interior design, the style is all in the details. Everything from paint color and architecture down to light fixture and furniture choices factor in to create a harmonized home.

Usually, choosing a style begins by assessing the exterior of the home. Then you must choose if you prefer classic or modern designs, and if you would like a more European approach or an American style. A professional interior designer can help you turn your visions of home renovation into a reality.

Architecture Interior Design And The Eight Pillars Of Design

Inside the home, the details hold a sentiment of their own. Tall white pillars stand regally on either side of the breakfast bar, demarcating the culinary expertise of those who work here, while cozy yellow halogen lighting beams down on the workspace in Old Tuscan style.

White crown molding along the baseboards of an older home shows that this home owner is a person who appreciates craftsmanship and who likes lavish things. Rounded doorways carry a cozy Mediterranean feel, welcoming all who enter. Truly architecture interior design is a meaningful art that has the power to shape our moods.

This year, AIA award-winning residential architecture interior design spoke volumes about the modern American spirit. A Central Park South apartment designed by architect Gwathmey Siegel & Associates Architects transformed a loft space into a fresh-lined, minimalist art gallery inspired home.

The architecture would act as “a coequal frame for the art, the furniture and the view,” Gwathmey said. He used asymmetrical, sculpted forms following the plumbing and a cubist collage of wood, stainless steel, titanium, stone and plaster. The jury concluded, “The design neither subordinates itself to the art nor competes with it while making its presence felt throughout the project.”

Architecture interior design is an ever-evolving study. Consumers are currently looking for homes that make better use of space, that offer open main floor plans for family interaction but separated by bedroom wings for privacy. Bathroom design is leaning toward creating home spas with whirlpools, dual-head shower stalls, double vanities and saunas.

Innovative designs for kitchens almost always add a utilitarian chef’s nook or breakfast bar. Living rooms make use of large windows, high ceilings and unexpected colors. The future points toward innovative designs.
