Hybrid gold clubs, also known as utility clubs, are a somewhat new addition to the many different types of golf clubs a golfer can pick from. Since they are easier to use, they have become very popular among recreational golfers. Because they are so much easier to use and hit with, most weekend golfers are using them, and now you will find many pros touring the circuit using hybrid golf clubs also.

What makes hybrid clubs so unique is that they meld together attributes of irons and woods into their design. With this type of innovation, a golfer can hit the ball easier, hit it longer as well as mitigate mis-hits on the course, and hybrids also offer lot of other benefits.

Hybrid golf clubs will typically serve as a replacement for your long irons including your 2, 3, 4 and possibly even your 5 iron. Hybrid golf clubs are usually said to be easier to use because most people are comparing them to the long irons that they normally replace in your golfing bag. So why choose hybrid clubs over regular irons?

For one, there’s not much of a back to a normal iron. While an iron can have perimeter weighting, there’s no way to have it further back unless the back is actually bigger. Then you need to ask yourself how much weight are you willing to swing? Because of this, many manufacturers have started to “fatten” the back of their clubs to make them easier to hit. Thus, hybrids will look like they have a hump on their back to help address this challenge with typical irons. And this moves the weight further onto the back of the iron to help with your hitting.

Golfers will be able to have the weight on the back of the club without the added bulk.  Then there are hybrid golf club manufacturers that have been able to mimic the look of a fairway wood by making the actual club a little bigger by putting the weight back a little farther. It is not as large as a fairway wood, which is harder to hit, but it does what it sets out to do.

A lower center of gravity is another property of hybrid clubs. If the center of gravity of a club is lower, than the ball will have an easier time getting up in the air. The launch angle of the ball is increased without having to actually change the loft of the club. Now, you might not actually be able to see this when you swing, but you will be able to see it with how well ball travels.

A hybrid with a loft that is the same as an iron will launch the ball higher because the weight is further back and the center of gravity is lower.

So, when you are shopping around for a hybrid golf club, you don’t really have to worry about what type of loft the club has since it will hit better than what you have in your bag currently. Some players love hybrid golf clubs while others think they are trash. Whatever your opinion may be, it is a simple fact that hybrid golf clubs get the ball in the air easier.
