Children’s Book Publishing – You Can Do It
Why are children’s books among the top selling books in the book publishing industry? For thousands of years, children have loved hearing and reading stories. Haven’t you made up stories and tales to tell your own children?
Today, books written with children in mind can really capture the attention of children. All the pop-ups, the glitter in the illustrations and even holograms that are available today delight little children. Because of this, the children’s book publishing industry has soared.
Dominating the children’s book publishing industry have been, of course, the large book publishing companies up until now. But now, just about anyone can publish their own children’s book with all the technology that is available today. Choices include both hard copies and electronic versions. With your text, you can design your own graphics using software that is readily available – some of which like Gimp – are even free. If you are not comfortable with creating your own graphics, you may be able to ask a friend for assistance in this area.
If you don’t know anyone that can assist with graphics, there are some who are very good at graphics but won’t charge you the same as a professional might. Students studying graphics and design at the local high school or college may be able to help you with your illustrations at a reduced cost.
You can produce your manuscript in a few different electronic formats, today. The simplest is in a PDF format, that you could sell from your own website. You could take payment using PayPal, and this is a fairly easy thing to set up, unlike years ago.
Amazon Kindle format is also a popular option for the delivery of your work. Many authors are now writing and formatting their books for Kindle and are able to use the Power of Amazon.You could reach hundreds of thousands of potential readers.
You could advertise your new book on a relatively cheap budget. You should definitely have a website and this can be done without much money these days. Hosting costs are quite affordable and you should be able to get this for less than nine bucks a month.As well, you could build your site on a WordPress platform which is a free download. Building your site with content after installing a nice theme on your WordPress installation is not very difficult to do.
Getting good traffic to your website will be the hardest thing to do. However, seeing as you love to write, you could look for other blogs, ezines and websites that are related to children’s books and offer to write some articles for them. You’ll usually get a link back to your website along with the publication of the article you’ve written.
Article directories such as EzineArticles.com is a great place to publish articles you’ve written. When using the “resource box,” instead of describing yourself, use it as a call to action to click on a link you provide, which will take the reader to your website.
There are probably quite a few things you could write about in 500 word articles. What about an article on how you write a book from the idea, through the writing stages to completion? If you published your own book, write an article about how you did it. If your book is on a particular subject, you could submit articles on that topic and ask the readers to visit your website for more information.
Slowly, the transition is being made from the traditional book publishing model to a different model where technology and resources for the individual are less expensive. With a bit of work, some research and dedication, you can be a part of this and put your children’s book into the hands of little ones and their parents!
