Curious About Finasteride?

Posted by on 23rd July 2009

Interested in exploring hair-loss treatments? Heard about finasteride and want to learn more? Here’s a quick introduction to get you headed in the right direction.

What Is Finasteride?

Finasteride is a medication that regrows visible, natural-looking hair.[1] Finasteride has been shown to block the formation of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in men with male-pattern hair loss, and this can contribute to a decrease in or arrest of baldness. Clinical studies have shown that men who took finasteride maintained or increased their numbers of visible scalp hairs and that many noticed an improvement in overall hair maintenance and growth.[2] Finasteride is the only pill for male-pattern hair loss that has been approved for use worldwide. Data from double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials first demonstrated the safety and efficacy of finasteride in 1,553 men between 18 and 41 with mild-to-moderate male-pattern baldness (androgentic alopecia) in the vertex region (top of the head).[3] More than 90% of men who use finasteride get visible results.[4] Finasteride is also used as a treatment in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in low doses, and in prostate cancer in higher doses.[5]

How Do I Use Finasteride?

Finasteride is taken as a tablet orally and works systemically.[6] The medicine must be taken every day for the rest of your life or until more effective treatments become available.[7] This drug should be taken with a full glass of water, with or without food.[8] Finasteride should be stored in a sealed bottle away from moisture, heat, and light at room temperature.[9] The medication is not indicated for use in females, and pregnant or breastfeeding women should not handle broken finasteride pills.[10] If a woman accidentally comes into contact with this drug from a broken or crushed pill, she should wash the contacted area with soap and water right away.[11]

What Are the Side Effects of Finasteride?

Finasteride’s side effects are primarily sexual and relatively uncommon: they strike one to two men in a hundred. If any side effects develop or change in intensity, tell your doctor as soon as possible.[12] Finasteride tablets should not be handled by a woman who is pregnant or who may become pregnant. However, finasteride tablets are coated and will prevent contact with the active ingredient during normal handling, provided that the tablets are not broken or crushed.[11] Pregnant women must avoid finasteride because it is known to cause birth defects in developing male babies.[13]

How Much Does Finasteride Cost?

Finasteride is available in varying quantities; 90-pill boxes often cost between US$125.00 and US$175.00.[7] However, significant savings can be found at discount prescription drug stores, where prices for 90-pill boxes can run well under half as much. The online market is an ideal place to find discount prescription drugs because many online pharmacies stock generics and source internationally.

Ionized Water Contains the Antioxidants Needed to Protect Against Disease

Posted by on 23rd July 2009

Many are drinking ionized water, a natural antioxidant, as epidemiological studies prove the effectiveness of antioxidants in protecting against disease. The research shows that antioxidants slow the aging process, reduce the rate of cancer and protects against cardiovascular disease.

As a result, those in the medical, scientific and natural healing communities recommend that we eat fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants. Many of us eat antioxidants without even trying as they tend to be in some of the more popular fruits and vegetables.

Things like raspberries, blueberries, sweet cherries and artichokes. Also beans, especially dried red beans, are rich in antioxidants. Focusing on foods that are antioxidant dense is a great way to protect health and promote wellness; however it takes time for the food to be digested.

The antioxidants must be absorbed into the body in order to be effective. This is one reason a growing number of people are choosing ionized water as their primary source for antioxidants.

When standard tap water is run through a filtration system using a process of electrolysis, the pH is changed.  This generates the ionized water so many are coming to regard as essential to healthy living.

The ionized water is a natural antioxidant that is immediately absorbed into the system. Once in the system, the antioxidants begin to fight the free radicals that damage cells, creating disease and illness.

American’s have come to understand that antioxidants are a vital part of protecting their health. As a result, we spend billions of dollars each year on antioxidant rich foods, supplements and powders. Many are now choosing instead to simply drink ionized water, a natural antioxidant that is immediately absorbed by the body.
