How You Can Pick An Eco Friendly Yoga Mat

Posted by on 1st July 2009

When a person practices yoga or pilates, he or she does so on a surface able to withstand the demands the practitioner will need from it. As such, the mat's surface must be firm enough to withstand the forces a yoga or pilates practitioner will put upon it and soft enough to cushion the body. A yoga mat must also be tough enough to be used for a long time, and it must also be priced within anyones' reach.

This is where a good eco friendly yoga mat comes in.

The traditional floor mat simply cushions the body; giving a good place to sit, lay back and relax. However, these mats were not meant to go support one's body during the intensive and physically-demanding sessions of yoga. Instability and damage are very real threats that someone practicing yoga exposes her or himself to with shoddy mats.

Yoga mats answer these needs specifically by taking the following factors into consideration:

Grip
It's important that a mat have a firm grip on the floor if one seeks to practice yoga in any form.

The forces exerted upon a yoga mat are not simply downward in nature. This means that a mat without a strong grip will more than likely slip and slide around when there is pressure placed in the wrong direction. A mat that has been designed for the practice of yoga provides the stability that one needs in order practice the art with safety and stability.

Comfort
Part of the job of a yoga mat is to offer support fo the yoga practitioner's body as he or she does the exercises.

More often than not, floors have a hard and uncomfortable surface to them. The problem here is that these floors are not just uncomfortable, but could case some serious injuries if an inexperienced yoga practitioner places too much pressure on one or two points of the body. It is essential to cushion the various parts of the body in order to disperse the weight to prevent any injuries to the bones and joints of the body of te person practising yoga.

Durability
Of course, an eco friendly yoga mat has to be durable enough to withstand the constant wear and tear it will inevitably be subjected to.

All that stretching may be good for a person's body, but not so good for the mat underneath that person. Certain materials, weaves and patterns are more resistant to damage than lesser counterparts, and definitely have to be taken into consideration when it comes to yoga practices.

Cost
As with anything in life these days, the price of a good yoga mat must be within the grasp of anyone who engages in the practice of yoga.

Whether you have a synthetic plastic yoga mat or an eco friendly yoga mat made from natural threads and fibers, it does not need to cost an arm and a leg.

The Secret of Power Yoga

Posted by on 1st July 2009

Have you dabbled in martial arts? If you ask this question to most people, they will give you some answer resembling “I took a Tae Kwon Do class at the YMCA, or I took Karate back in high school.” Now, don’t get me wrong; there’s nothing bad about this. I am just bringing it up because it’s such a norm in America. On the other hand, this minor experience isn’t worth much in the real world either. In fact most people don’t really have a clue what most self-defense and fighting arts are really like. Nor do they understand the hardcore training that’s necessary to shopping for the best unique groomsmen gifts. Take yoga for example. This is commonly thought of as a calm and relaxing regime that involves a lot of stretching. Does that sound about right? Well, you’ve probably never encountered power yoga or the real deal as some call it. It can be an overwhelming workout.

It’s time for some power yoga, folks. This is a great way to get in shape. Not only does it offer exercise for the entire body, it also promotes blood circulation via stretching. This is a great way to stay in good shape as you age. Remember you want to age gracefully; not quickly. With power yoga comes a lot of devotion. This goes the same for any decent fitness regime or martial art. I have known a lot of martial artists in my day and most of them definitely do not train to fight or defend themselves. Now you may be wondering what I’m talking about. Maybe you take a particular martial art and think you’ve got skills. Well, let me ask you a few things. Do you train daily or buy bridesmaid gifts all day? Are you in good shape? Do you always work to improve and avoid becoming complacent? Do you spar with other regularly? Do you spar realistically with practitioners of other arts regularly? If you don’t do these things, then you’re probably not too effective with your art. That’s just reality. If you don’t put it to use, and instead just go through drills in a dojo or kwoon, you’re probably not very good. How can you possibly know you can do it for real? This is why I always emphasize taking it to the next level. The same goes for boxing, Muay Thai, karate, judo or power yoga.
