SAYING NO TO LEAVE IS A YES FOR ILL-HEALTH

A third of people employed in full-time jobs won’t take a single day’s annual leave even though they have world-class vacation destinations all within easy reach
According to a study done by Tourism Australia, nearly 60% of full-time Australian workers don’t utilise their 4 weeks’ annual leave entitlement. Many of them have eight weeks or more accrued leave.
It was also found that Australians work longer hours than anyone else in the developed world.
Shorter, weekend getaways have become increasingly popular at the expense of the traditional month-long seaside family holiday. The global financial crisis has also been a major contributor to the slowdown in domestic and international tourism.Whilst some people are content to only take a couple of days away, health experts don’t always agree that that is sufficient.
Experts agree that people who take their health seriously should take holiday time seriously too.Men who take annual leave reduce their overall risk of death by 20%, according to a study done by the State University of New York on a sample of over 12 000 men aged between 35 and 57.By taking leave, they can also reduce their risk of death from heart disease by up to 30%.
Australians shouldn’t have any excuse to avoid taking leave, given that they have so many amazing holiday destinations within easy reach. West Australians have the attractions of the Margaret River area within a few hours’ drive, and with a diversity of quality accommodation in Margaret River to choose from, even the most jaded tourist will be energised. Incredible beaches, natural beauty, abundant wineries and eating out choices, local attractions and child-friendly activities combined with a wide range of holiday homes in Margaret River make it a holiday destination that’s easy to reach and hard to beat.
Experts tell us that regular holidays are good for our well-being. A 2005 study from the Marshfield Clinic in Wisconsin showed that women who don’t take regular holidays were two to three times more likely to be depressed than women who take regular breaks.
Skipping holidays seems to be a national past-time in Australia.Men between the ages of 35 and 49 working in the corporate world have accrued the most leave, with half of them having children under the age of 12.
There’s much more to life than work, say Seaside Holiday Home Accommodation, an agency specialising in self-catering holiday homes in Margaret River which has over 60 homes on its books.”Both adults and children need holidays to de-stress, relax, rejuvenate and spend quality time together in a relaxing environment away from the day-to-day stresses. By renting holiday accommodation in Dunsborough, Yallingup or anywhere in the Margaret River area, families can enjoy a peaceful, private environment which is beneficial to everyone’s health and happiness.”
