Do I have Hemroids Or Do I Have Something Worse

Posted by on 18th August 2009

John Armstrong felt apprehensive as he got ready for work. Right before flushing the toilet he noticed blood on the paper, now he was wondering if he had a serious problem on his hands.

He didn’t feel any pain, but then he had heard that cancer symptoms sometimes never manifest themselves until in the late stages. He didn’t want to assume the worst but he was definately concerned. He picked up the phone and called his doctor…

Luckily, John was experiencing a common symptom of internal hemroids. Because their are no pain receptors in that part of the digestive system, a person would not feel pain from hemroids but if the hemroid wall ruptured it would bleed.

Any time there is blood present you should have a doctor diagnose the cause!

There are typically three methods that may be used to diagnose hemroids.

1. A visual and digital rectal exam with a gloved, lubricated finger to feel for abnormalities.

2. An anoscope exam (This is done using a hollow, lighted tube for viewing internal hemroids, or a proctoscope, useful for more a more complete examination).

3. The doctor may also examine the rectum and lower colon (sigmoid) with sigmoidoscopy or the entire colon with colonoscopy. These procedures also involve the use of lighted, flexible tubes inserted through the rectum.

If the doctor diagnoses you with hemroids he may also suggest a treatment to alleviate the symptoms of the hemroids.

Normally, unless your hemroids have serious complications or are a severe case they will suggest a non-surgical hemroid treatment. However if there is a good reason, he may suggest surgery.

Hemroid removal may include one of the following techniques:

Injection, banding, coagulation, cauterization or surgery (hemorrhoidectomy.)

There are a multitude of non-surgical treatments for hemroids. They are available at your local drug store as over the counter medications. Depending on the severity of your hemroids they may or may not be effective as a hemroid treatment. In addition to the creams, ointments and pads that are available there are several herbs that help aleviate  hemroid pain. Prevention is the best hemroid treatment

Randy pulled to the side of the road and sat forward adjusting his weight so as not to have any weight on his butt. He grimaced in pain and frustration as he squeezed the steering wheel and waited for the burning to pass. After 5 long minutes the pain finally subsided and he turned the car around and started back to the house. He had been planning to meet up with some friends and go out to dinner but he was afraid that his hemroids would flare up again and put him in a embarrasing position so he called and cancelled.

Have you ever experienced something like this? Have hemroids ever kept you from being able to spend time with friends, participate in physical activity or just caused you pain in general?

Have you ever wondered which hemroid treatment would be the best solution to your problem?

What are hemroids? Have you ever blown up a balloon? Much like when you increase pressure inside the balloon by blowing into it, your blood veins can stretch and swell with increased pressure. If you are straining, such as when you are constipated, you increase the pressure of blood filling the vein and the vein begins to stretch or swell. This then causes bleeding and pain.

Constipation is the primary, preventable cause of hemroids. If you avoid constipation through proper diet and exercise, you can avoid hemroid flareups and the associated pain. Foods that are high in fiber will contribute to regular bowel movements so you should eat foods high in fiber. Some examples of high fiber foods are:

apples

peaches

raspberries

tangerines

oranges

pears

prunes

broccoli

cabbage

carrots

cauliflower

spinach

zucchini

In addition to your diet be sure to drink plenty of water.

So don't let hemroids take control of your life. Fight back. Take care of your digestive system and avoid the complications brought on by poor diet and a lack of exercise.
