The Facts About Body Contouring

Many people associate the term “cosmetic surgery” with procedures performed on the face; with some exceptions, the concepts that usually come to mind when cosmetic surgery is mentioned are nose surgery, eyelid surgery, and so on. However, cosmetic surgery for the body is an equally important field, which goes beyond just breast augmentation. It’s clear that people have a lot of worries about their overall appearance, and this means that any ugly or uncommon aspect of an individual’s appearance, whether it’s on the face or any other visible area, can have negative consequences. When people lack confidence in aspects of their appearance, it can keep them from enjoying their lives to the fullest, and in some cases, even regarding the anything below the face, the issue cannot be corrected effectively through any means but cosmetic surgery. The majority of cosmetic surgical procedures for the body are referred to collectively as “body cosmetic surgery”. These procedures aim to alter the contours of the body, usually by removing excess body fat or skin and by tightening the remaining tissues.
The most popular body contouring procedure is liposuction”. Liposuction involves the use of a surgical tube device called a cannula and a suction device called an aspirator to extract fat. A small incision is made in the target area, and liquid is added to the area to balance out the amount of fat being removed. Liposuction is a reliable way of addressing with a problem faced by many people, and therefore it’s no surprise that the procedure is one of the most popular cosmetic surgical procedures available. It is not to be used as a means of losing weight, as the actual quantity of fat removed is quite small; rather, liposuction is only really appropriate for healthy individuals who, even with sufficient exercise, cannot seem to get rid of fat from specific problem areas. Among these areas are the neck, the abdomen, the thighs, and, for men, the “love handles.” Recently, more refined liposuction procedures such as Liposculpture and SmartLipo have been developed, which target more specific areas and result in even less scarring and risk of other complications.
Another very popular procedure, particularly among women, is the abdominoplasty, also known as the “tummy tuck.” This operation aims to raise and tighten loose skin and excise tissues causing the appearance of looseness from the around the stomach, a problem which is especially common among individuals who have undergone significant weight loss, as well as women who have experienced pregnancy. Incisions are made in different locations according to the extensiveness of the procedure. Occasionally, the operation may be completed with the use of just one incision. The belly button can be repositioned as part of the tummy tuck operation if needed.
Body lifts are also considered body contouring procedures. Thigh lifts and buttock lifts are two of the more popular procedures in this group. These are similar in the sense that, in both, excess tissues are removed and the remaining tissues are lifted in the target areas. They aim at a more youthful, tighter look to the area. An abdominoplasty may also be performed in the same session as a thigh lift and buttock lift, resulting in what is known as the lower body lift. Similarly, the upper body lift incorporates the upper arm lift, which targets the “batwing” deformity that affects many women, and the breast lift, which, perhaps not surprisingly, sees the breasts lifted. Upper and lower body lifts may be performed together, resulting in a “full body lift,” which is one of the most extensive cosmetic operations available.
Certain types of implants, such as buttock implants and calf implants, are also considered part of the body contouring field. Buttock implants are intended to add or restore volume to the buttock area, and can also result in a tighter feel and appearance. Some genetic issues which involve a reduction in muscle tone of the legs are also often addressed through the use of calf implants. They are also sometimes desired for purely cosmetic reasons. This is an operation particularly popular for bodybuilders, as the calves can be challenging to build up even with the “correct” training regimen.
All surgical procedures certain risks, and the patient will also be required to adhere to a strict recovery plan. Please consult with a surgeon if you would like to find out if any of these procedures is a good choice for you.
